The title of the book novel is Holes, made by Louis Sachar.
Louis Sachar was the author who wrote the novel Holes. In his early life, he used to have orange fights with other local kids, which inspired him to write the novel Holes. After his father’s death, he had a short but a very successful job as a door-to-door salesman. In his school years, he assisted everyone in classrooms at Hillside Elementary School, which earned him the nickname “Louis the Yard Teacher”.
In Holes, Stanley was the main character of the story. He was wrongfully accused and sent to Camp Green Lake, all because of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. From there, he had to dig holes every day to build character. After some time, he met some campmates: Zero, Magnet, Zigzag, Xray, Squid, and Armpit.
Zero and Sam are the most interesting characters that I read throughout the novel. Zero was a genius character in Group D but he lacked the ability to read and write. That’s where Stanley came to teach him and they became best friends. On the other hand, Sam, the onion man, is one of the interesting characters, because he sells onions and proves to everyone that onions are good for one’s health.
I really enjoyed all of Stanley’s character changes, like how he lost a ton of weight when he dug some holes every day at Camp Green Lake; and improved his self-confidence, and made his new friend, Zero. I also appreciated the backstories from modern-day stories, like how Elya Yelnats got the curse and her relationship with Sam and Kissin’ Kate. I think young teens who read adventure stories would enjoy reading it.
I disliked that some characters are racist to Zero and Sam. I also disliked the Warden who cared more about the treasure than the kids who found it and she blamed Stanley for stealing the suitcase.
I would recommend it to young readers. I think they would like the story.
I think my rating for this novel is 10/10. It’s because the characters from the novel are surprisingly good, the events and the setting gave me the chills to read. The book was divided into three whole parts, with chapters running from 1 to 50. If you’re bored, try reading this novel.
