Kamusta po Mamu,
Marianna here! Even though you’ve known me for a while, you probably don’t know that I play badminton outside and recently participated in a badminton competition. I’ve only started playing this year and have been learning lots from my parents, who have been playing for many years.
During my time in BUBOTs, I have definitely remembered the story of ‘Our Family Ghost.’ Although I do not remember exactly when I read it, the story has still stuck with me. Because of how many Filipino traditions and cultural things appeared throughout Manuel’s (the main character) journey as he tries to figure out all the mysterious things happening in his life. I also love how the story was written overall, making it my favourite story that I’ve read in BUBOTs.
One of the things I really enjoy doing in BUBOTs is writing a whole story or information text and publishing it online for the world to see. Doing things like this really helps me get my thoughts on a page; it helps me unwind and relax.
Speaking of writing, my biggest strength is writing a persuasive writing piece. Using lots of descriptive words helps me share my opinions. I am not scared of having a different opinion from other people. My weakness, however, is understanding old stories like Dorian. The Old/Victorian English is not what I’m used to reading, and I can get confused easily. Sometimes, I have to read one paragraph more than 5 times just to understand it. I don’t dislike it; I just have a hard time with it.
I want to improve my understanding of these old stories, so maybe you could go into some of the history of Old/Victorian English. I think it could really help me read these stories better, especially for high school.
For the rest of my time in BUBOTs, I want to start asking more questions. Occasionally, I tend to worry about asking questions because sometimes they can be very detailed questions like “Can you please repeat the task?” or “I don’t know how to do this part of the question.” I hope you understand.
I am very excited to start another year in BUBOTs and learn new things.
Kind regards,
Marianna
