Why should we eat less sweets? It is because too many sweets can get you sick, increase your weight, and cause tooth decay.
It can get you sick
According to a 2014 study found in JAMA Internal Medicine, people who ate more sweets had a 38% higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease compared with those who consumed less. And consuming too much added sugar can raise blood pressure and increase chronic inflammation, both of which are pathological pathways to heart disease.
It can increase your weight
Another effect of consuming too many sweets is an increase in weight. In 2016, more than 1.9 billion adults, 18 years of age and older, were overweight. Of these, over 650 million were obese39% of adults aged 18 years and over were overweight in 2016, and 13% were obese because of too much junk food. Obesity increases the risk of several debilitating, and deadly diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers.
It can cause teeth decay
Eating too many sweets can cause tooth decay. When sugar is consumed, it interacts with the bacteria within the plaque to produce acid. This acid is responsible for tooth decay because it slowly dissolves the enamel, creating holes or cavities in the teeth. Tooth decay can lead to tooth abscesses, which may result in the tooth having to be removed .And too much sugar can cause bad breath, toothaches, and sensitivity to the cold.
These are the reasons why we should eat less sweets.
