Habitat:
Colossal squid: The colossal squid lives in the deep, cold waters near Antarctica. It dives really deep so humans can’t reach it easily.
Giant squid: The giant squid lives in deep, open waters, but not in the very deepest parts of the ocean. It prefers areas that are far below the surface, but not at the very bottom.
Physical characteristics
Colossal squid: The colossal squid has eight arms, two tentacles, a beak, a head, and two long fins like all squids, but what makes it unique is that it has hooks on its long tentacles.
Giant squid:The giant squid has eight arms, two long tentacles, a beak, and a head. Same as all the other squids, there’s nothing special about this squid’s physical characteristics.
Natural selection
Colossal squid: The colossal squid has big eyes to see in the dark and hooks on its arms to catch food. If it’s scared, it can squirt ink to hide. It lays about 2,175 eggs, and after about 50 days, the eggs hatch. The baby squid grows into an adult in 1 to 3 years.
Giant squid: They have huge eyes to see in the dark and shoot out a big cloud of ink to stay safe. Giant squid live for about five years and only have babies once in their life. The mother lays around 3,000 eggs. After the eggs hatch, the baby squid grows into an adult squid in just a few weeks.
