The clock on the wall clicked one last time, then stopped. Everything became quiet. The atmosphere turned an odd shade of gray and light orange, as if it were night and day at the same time.
She looked outside the window; her eyes widened. All the cars had stopped, frozen in place. Pedestrians too were like statues, immobilized in their unfinished movements.
Curiously, she stepped outside and walked past the stiff objects and people. Her footsteps and breathing were the only sounds she could hear. She looked up at the sky. Birds were frozen in mid-flight, hanging in the air like black, feathery light bulbs.
Suddenly, a deep rumbling sound rushed up from beneath her feet. The sidewalk cracked open, revealing a pitch-black hole, it was like an abyss full of nothing. Her eyes widened, but before she could do anything, she fell.
Her eyes snapped open, and the loud, annoying sound of an alarm rang in her ears. She sat up, groggy, and swung her legs over the side of the bed, getting ready for the new, normal day ahead.
