The habitat of a giraffe.
The savanna woodlands with long trees that are spread out all through the land. It has a hot climate of 8-20 degrees all throughout the year.
When giraffes did not have long necks.
Long ago, giraffes had no long necks about 16.9 million years ago, which made them hot, couldn’t reach for food and were hunted really easily by different animals.
The evolution.
They adapted by making their necks grow longer; they could reach food from trees, which helped them keep cool. Their long necks and their slim bodies make a larger surface area that helps dissipate heat and keep a stable body temperature, and they could even look out for predators that try to attack them. Their skin also makes them camouflaged from their environment and harder to spot.
Physical characteristics of a giraffe.
Giraffes are the tallest animals in the world; their height could reach up to 4.8 meters long; in fact, giraffes are as tall as a t-rex. They have long tongues that have built in sun protection; they have a very long neck and two small stubby horns on their heads.
Theory of evolution.
A famous French naturalist named Lamarck and Charles Darwin argued about how over time giraffes stretched their necks longer and longer to reach the leaves on trees but later theories claimed that male giraffes grew long necks to fight about female giraffes.
Research
Giraffes could go extinct by Derek Lee. Only below 70000 giraffes are left in the world and the extinction is caused by climate change, their habitat being destroyed so they are facing a silent extinction. Pollution of carbon dioxide caused by humans destroys habitats destroyed by human actions, so this needs to stop.
