Why Having Siblings Is Better than Being an Only Child

There are many people in the world; some have siblings, some do not. Are you an only child, or do you have siblings? The average percentage of only children in families worldwide is approximately 20%; the other 80% are people with siblings. I’ve been an only child for ten years, but now, I have my brother with me. And based on my experience, having siblings is way better and has a lot of advantages.

Firstly, one of the advantages of having siblings is basically an “all-you-can-eat buffet” in playtime terms. You can play for as long as you like. You only stop if you are tired, have school or homework, or it’s bedtime. If you’re an only child, your only playmates are probably your parents or classmates. However, playtime would be very limited since your parents need to go to work or it is time to go home. Yes, you can play independently, but playtime is way better when you have a playmate.

Another advantage is you have someone to talk to about your feelings and how your day went. Unless your sibling is still a baby and speaking gibberish, you can talk to someone anytime. As the eldest, I promise to always be near my brother and always protect him. It’s not the opposite if you’re an only child, but like playtime, it’s limited. When you’re alone, you try to amuse yourself in any way possible, especially if you’re the only kid in the house, like me before. Having someone to talk to is very important because not only it gives a companion but also helps improve your socializing skills.

Lastly, it can help improve your state of mind. If you ask me, when you have no siblings, life can become boring. There are times when you are jealous of other people who have siblings. I always wondered what it feels like to have one. It was answered when my brother came. Life can be way better if you have a sibling. It’s way more fun. Siblings can also serve as an anti-stress. They can make you happy, make you laugh. Improving your state of mind is like the main job of your sibling. It’s very joyful to have one.

There are a lot of advantages if you have a sibling. Unlimited playtime, having someone to talk to anytime and helping improve your state of mind are only some of these. You have a partner in crime who is always there for you and always supports you. Yes, there might be times we fight and have bad times, but the good times are more overwhelming than those. With siblings, life can be so much better.
