On Monday, March 18, the Department of Education (DepEd) opened an investigation into a teacher scolding her students while live-streaming it on social media. In the video, the teacher was saying, “Hindi ako nag-board exam para lang hindi irespeto ng mga katulad niyong wala pa namang nararating sa buhay. Hindi na nga kayo matalino, sama pa ng ugali ninyo.”
What she’s not doing is good because it clearly violates the students’ dignity.
The teacher scolded her students in a video, calling them “ugaling iskwater” and “ingrato.”
It’s fine to scold them and tell them what they did wrong, but this kind of language not only crosses the line of professionalism but also hurts her students’ pride. The teacher violated the students’ trust and exposed them to public ridicule and humiliation.
While it’s understandable that teachers may sometimes become frustrated or angry with their students, their anger must be managed responsibly. Shouting and cursing at the students should have no place in the classroom, let alone on social media platforms.
Dep-Ed was right to investigate this because what the teacher did was not okay. These actions should not be taken lightly. It would be best to let the authorities send a strong message that this behavior is not acceptable.
Teaching is not just about sharing knowledge; it’s about accompanying and guiding young minds in their journey with care and respect. The students in the video might have done something wrong based on how the teacher was acting, but that isn’t supposed to be an excuse for the teacher to start badmouthing them and saying, “Wala kayong mararating sa buhay.”
What the teacher did was highly inappropriate and unprofessional. Teachers should guide and help their students grow, not ridicule and post them on social media.
