Do you want to paint, but you’re having trouble finding inspiration for your painting? Maybe you can get inspiration from your surroundings, learn from the internet, or travel to get ideas. There are plenty of things you can do to come up with a painting idea as a beginner.
Get inspiration from your surroundings
If you’re having trouble coming up with an idea, consider looking around you. Choose anything that captures your interest, even if it’s only a sheet of paper, a fan, your phone, or your pillows. This will help you generate ideas and explore possible subjects.
Look around you and find something you are interested in. After finding the perfect one, start sketching it. After sketching, decide if you want to alter the color before painting it.
Let’s say you want to paint a clear glass of water, but you think it is too plain. So you begin looking around and find a purple pencil case. So you decide to paint the glass of water purple.
Yes, looking around will inspire you and give you ideas to make it different.
Learn from the internet
The internet provides you with plenty of painting ideas, from photos, instructional videos, blogs and articles about almost anything.
While researching, you can find a ton of examples of the specific object you want to paint. Let’s take a rose for example. When you type “how to paint a rose” in your browser’s search bar, millions of results will appear. You may find a bouquet of roses, roses in a vase, etc. You can simply pick the one you want. Do you see a rose? Is that rose too advanced for you? Simply scroll and find an easier option.
You can also look for step-by-step tutorials for painting roses on YouTube. Then decide which rose you like most. Still too advanced for you? Then just keep on looking.
Travel to get ideas
Another technique is to go traveling and exploring. While traveling, you might see a lot of vibrant, realistic, or straightforward painting ideas. There are many beautiful areas you can explore as you travel depending on where you are. There might be numerous stores, mountains, clouds, lakes, waterfalls, roads, etc. You can find a lot of realistic ideas.
You can also explore. Go outside and take a walk, you will find houses, buildings, mountains, beaches, a sunrise or sunset, depending on where you are. Whether you are hiking, skiing, snarkling, gliding, etc. You’ll see tons of colorful areas, things, and people.
As you have just read, there are numerous things you can do to generate ideas. You can observe your surroundings, conduct internet research, and go traveling and exploring.
Out of all the options, the one I do the most is researching what to paint. How about you? Which method for generating ideas is your favorite?
