Thomas Alva Edison was born in Milan, Ohio, U.S, on February 11, 1847. He was raised in Port Huron, Michigan, after his family moved there when he was 7. He quit school, and when he was 14, he contracted scarlet fever, which caused Edison to be deaf in his left ear, and 80% deaf in the other.
